Background

Specific Heat: Thermal energy required to increase the temperature of a gram-unit substance by 1 degree Celsius (cal/g℃)

Background
Substance Specific Heat
Water 1
Wood 0.41
Alcohol 0.58
Iron 0.107

Technical challenges which electric instant water heater faces

  • 1. Water has the second highest specific heat among all the substances, and therefore, requires much thermal energy for heating.
  • 2. It is impossible to control the temperature of water, when it is being instantaneously heated.
  • 3. It takes more than 2-3 seconds to use warm (hot) water after turning on the heater, which results in wasting some of the water.
  • 4. Inevitable energy loss due to convection
  • 5. Limitations in reducing the size of metal heater
  • 6. Risk of electrical leakage and shock of metal heater

Resolutions to the technical challenges

1. Application of flat plate ceramic heater

  • Highest output per unit area → capable of minimizing the size of heater element
  • Favorable for efficient flow path → Maximized thermal efficiency
  • Continuous heating of minimum flow → 2.8kw, 7cc volume
  • Capable of manufacturing an electric instant water heater with power under 3kw
  • No risk of electrical shock or leakage

2. Development of flat plate ceramic heater with high thermal shock resistance

  • Compensates the shortcomings of existing ceramic heater
  • Designing a new flow path for improving the thermal shock resistance and durability of existing ceramic heater : suppressing the foaming
  • Eliminating energy loss caused by convection
  • Facilitating the expansion of electrical capacity → 10kw, 30kw, 50kw...

3. Real-time control of water temperature

  • Controlling the output in real time, by sensing the flow and temperature being input
  • Precision of output temperature: ±1 degree, Celsius

Ceramic Heater

Fluid Heating Device

1. The first electrical instant water heater to be applied with flat plate ceramic heater

2. Domestic patent registration complete

3. Applied for, and registered as an international patent

4. Resolutions for the shortcomings of existing water heater

  • Gas-type instant water heater : Risk of gas installation and utilization / Risk of suffocation, due to combustion-type heating / Temperature change of water is severe
  • Electric instant water heater : Electric works required, due to large capacity (capacity is 4kW, at the least) / Risk of electrical leakage and shock / Difficulties in controlling the water temperature
  • Bin-fired water heater : Prolonged heating time and high electricity consumption / Low thermal efficiency / Constant use can trigger changes in water temperatures / Huge volume due to the size of the water tank capacity
